In April, Netflix‘s catalogue of movies and series was enriched by a brand new romantic drama series: Heartstopper. The plot? Boy meets boy. Boy becomes friends. Boy falls in love. The series immediately became a huge success, after which the streaming service decided to announce renewal with two new seasons.
Heartstopper officially gets seasons 2 and 3 from Netflix
Have you taken a look at the Internet’s biggest movie and series databases to see what people thought of Heartstopper? If not, it’s important to know that the average visitor to IMDb rates the hit series a stunning 8.9 out of 10 (currently 33,000 votes). At Rotten Tomatoes, Heartstopper even manages to score a perfect 100% on the Tomatometer and the audience is also hugely positive with 98% out of 3,234 votes.
It is therefore not at all surprising that Netflix immediately decided to extend the series with two additional seasons. In the tweet below from Netflix UK & Ireland, the news was announced. Currently, it is not yet known when the sequel seasons will appear online, but this could take some time as production has yet to begin.

Romantic drama series became a huge success immediately after its launch
Alice Oseman is the author and illustrator of the Heartstopper books. She will also return in the second season of the series as the writer and creator of the Netflix series. Fun fact, shared by Netflix in a press release about the renewal: sales of this book series have increased by a whopping 1700% in the United States since the series’ launch.
In addition, the streaming service revealed that the success of the series can also be seen on social media. The hashtag #heartstopper has already been used 4.3 billion times on TikTok and actors Kit Connor and Joe Locke are now both not at 100,000 followers, but at a total of 3.4 million and 2.5 million respectively. Those are huge growth numbers, but given the ratings, it’s not very surprising. After all, Heartstopper was in the Netflix Top 10 most-watched movies and series in a whopping 54 countries.
