Pixar film ‘Turning Red’ available on Disney+ starting March 11, 2022
In a new tweet from Pixar, the good news was announced on Friday. The animation studio posted that Turning Red, their next project, would be available to stream exclusively on Disney+ starting March 11, 2021. Along with this, a date announcement video was shared with a few images from the film.
Third consecutive Pixar film to skip theaters
After Pixar released Cars 3 and Coco in 2017, Incredibles 2 and Toy Story 4 were released in 2018 and 2019. Then the corona pandemic hit and Disney+ had released its own streaming service. Due to a combination of these factors, Onward (2020) was still released in theaters, but Disney and Pixar decided to launch Soul (2020) and Luca (2021) exclusively on the streaming service.
Whether this trend will continue after the corona crisis is not yet known. In any case, it is good news for subscribers of Disney+ that they will be the very first to be able to watch Pixar’s latest animated films on the streaming service.
Turning Red (film, 2022): plot, information and trailer
Turning Red is an all-new original feature film from Pixar Animation Studios’ director Domee Shi, who won an Oscar for her 2018 short film, Bao. Young actress Rosalie Chiang lends her voice to Mei Lee, a 13-year-old girl who turns into a giant red panda with a “poof” when she gets too excited (which is practically always). Sandra Oh (The Chair, Killing Eve) performs the voice of Mei Lee’s protective, if not somewhat overbearing mother, Ming, who is never far from her daughter – which makes for an awkward reality for the teenager.
